Natural Hormone Therapy

Dr. Murphy specializes in Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy and takes a unique and detailed treatment approach. For instance, he chooses natural alternatives over synthetic hormones.

To begin the process, he will complete a thorough medical history along with a complete physical and symptom assessment in order to confirm that you are a good candidate for hormone therapy. Next, he will develop an individualized care plan that takes into account your overall well-being and health.

Why Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bio-identical hormones are derived from yams and soy. Since these hormones come from a natural source, they are molecularly identical to the hormones that our own bodies produce. The experience and skill of the treating physician significantly affect the outcome of the therapy. BHRT is very complex medicine and requires careful, and frequent evaluation and laboratory tests.

Dr. Murphy has done extensive hormone research and has successfully treated hundreds of men and women with BHRT. He is very concerned about the health, well-being and safety of his patients and monitors their health closely and personally.

Who is a good candidate for BHRT?

  • Women who have had partial or total hysterectomies.
  • Men who are undergoing or have undergone andropause.
  • Women who are in perimenopause or have undergone menopause.
  • Individuals with diabetes and chronic pain.
  • Individuals on chronic narcotic pain medications.

Our hormones begin to decline as we age, starting in our late 30s and continuing through our mid-50s. In women, this process is known as menopause and is marked by the decline of estrogen and progesterone. Men experience a similar process called andropause, which is caused by a decline in testosterone.

Importantly, women who have had either a partial or total hysterectomy are especially good candidates for BHRT since they have experienced surgical menopause. The low hormone levels associated with surgical menopause place these patients at a higher-than-normal risk for cardiovascular problems, dementia and osteoporosis. However, BHRT may help to prevent these medical conditions by replacing naturally-occurring hormones.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you might have a hormone imbalance or low hormone levels:

  • Mood Swings
  • Low energy
  • Memory lapses or mental fog
  • Night sweats or hot flashes
  • Loss of muscle tone
  • Low libido
  • Inability to experience pleasure
  • All types of chronic pain

Types of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Pellets – Patients experience the most significant results using pellets. According to Dr. Murphy, pellets are the most effective form of BHRT.

Creams – This option may be appropriate for patients, or post-menopausal women who are not ready for the pellet form of BHRT.

HcG Injections – Depending on your lab results, Dr. Murphy may also recommend HcG injections, which have been endorsed by Dr. Forrest Tennant, a former president of the American Pain Society.
